Zero-touch parking through plate recognition
OCR plate recognition driving entry, exit and automatic billing, replacing staffed booths and cash handling with a capture-to-charge pipeline.
This example comes from the technical delivery experience behind AussieSync. It does not necessarily represent a project contracted directly through AussieSync.

01 Problem
Staffed booths and ticket machines are slow, expensive and error-prone, and queues form at exactly the wrong moment.
- Cash handling required staffing, reconciliation and physical security.
- Plates must be read reliably across varied lighting, weather and approach angles.
- A misread at the barrier strands a driver and blocks everyone behind them.
- Sessions had to be billed automatically without anyone verifying them by hand.
02 The solution
A capture, detect, OCR, match and act pipeline that opens the barrier and bills the session automatically.
- Edge cameras capture at entry and exit; detection localises the plate in frame.
- OCR reads the characters and the result is normalised before database matching.
- A confident match opens the barrier; a low-confidence read escalates instead of guessing.
- Entry and exit events pair into a session that is priced and billed automatically.
- Payment is cashless, removing booth staffing and cash reconciliation entirely.
03 Technical approach
Every choice earns its place.
- Python CV & OCRPlate detection and character recognition at the edge.
- Go & NestJSSession pairing, pricing and billing services.
- PostgreSQLSessions, tariffs and the plate registry.
- Gate hardware integrationBarrier control driven by the match result.
04 Outcome
Zero-touch entry and exit, no cash handling, and faster throughput with fewer queues.
